Adrianne Pieczonka - Voice
Soprano Adrianne Pieczonka grew up in Burlington, Ontario. She made her professional debut in 1988 with the Canadian Opera Company. Adrianne studied voice at the University of Western Ontario and University of Toronto.
In 1989 she became a member of the Vienna Volksoper and in 1991 she joined the Vienna State Opera. She has sung at every major opera house including La Scala, Metropolitan Opera New York, Royal Opera House in London, Teatro Colon Buenos Aires, San Francisco, Opera de la Bastille Paris, Berlin, Munich, Toronto and she has appeared at the summer festivals in Bayreuth, Salzburg, Edinburgh and Glyndebourne.
Adrianne has sung with many of the world's finest conductors including Sir Georg Solti, Riccardo Muti, Claudio Abbado, James Levine, Zubin Mehta, Christian Thielemann and Kirill Petrenko among many others.
Recent highlights include singing The Marschallin (Der Rosenkavalier) in Munich with the Bavarian State Opera as well on tour at Carnegie Hall. She recently performed the title role of Tosca at the Canadian Opera Company, the Royal Opera House in London and at Dresden's Semperoper.
She specializes in the roles of Richard Strauss, most notably Ariadne (Ariadne auf Naxos), Arabella, The Empress (Frau ohne Schatten) and The Marschallin (Der Rosenkavalier).
Adrianne enjoys singing concerts and recitals and recently performed Schubert's Song Cycle "Die Winterreise" in Madrid, Montreal and Toronto.
In 2007 she was awarded the title "Kammersängerin" by the Austrian Government which recognizes outstanding achievement on the operatic stage. She was made an Officer to the Order of Canada in 2008 and was named a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 2009. Adrianne is a Dora and Juno award winner and has recorded several CDs and DVDs. She lives with her family in Toronto.
